International Peace Trees Program and SDGs

The aim of the Peace Trees Program is to inspire and involve youth to create innovative solutions that contribute to a brighter future for all and a healthier planet. Through our program, we invite students and their families to undertake and validate five collective actions per year that actively contribute to the United Nation’s pillars of sustainable development:
Planet – Peace – Population – Prosperity – Partnership.

The inauguration of the Peace Tree and the practice of these tools of the International Program were highlights for the residents of this home for seniors. In particular, the emotional support provided by the Peace Tree and the children from a nearby orphanage to a hospitalized resident in palliative care and during the mourning phase were treasured by all.

This consular school was established in 1987 and located in the Kanyenkoko district in the center of the city and province of Rumonge. The town of Rumonge is located 72 kilometers south of the capital of Burundi, Bujujbura and near the lake of Tanganyika.

This is a high school that began in 1993. Due to lack of buildings, these two schools operate alternately: one before noon and the other in the afternoon. These buildings were built by the parents' own funds. They are home to Congolese and Burundian children.

This school is located in the Swahili district bordering Lake Tanganyika. This Muslim school that uses a Burundian program was built by the parents of the students.

Basic School of Nkayamba

This public school of Burundian law is located in the Nkayamba district in the center of the town of Rumonge. It was built in 2000 by the parents of the students. Elementary school students attend classes in the morning and high school students attend classes in the afternoon to accommodate this school’s population of 1050 pupils.

Initiated by Yon, 9 years old, the students of this school in Bayonne spontaneously decided to join the "Boxes for Peace" exchange, organized by the school of Sainte Marie de Biarritz. The students stood in front of the school entrance to raise awareness among parents to "act". A wonderful example of what SDG no. 17, Partnership, can do.

The students are very active in the co-creation of conscious breathing exercises.

Located at the door of the city of Uvira in Kala, near the center of SOS Children's Village, the students of this school are committed to practice the 5 keys of reconnection with their supervisors in connection with the SDGs. The students celebrated the International Day of Kindness and Benevolence by visiting the sick at the Kala Health Center. During mini-breaks, supervisors help students practice breathing exercises and sending peace doves of love.

The first school that became aware of the Peace Trees Program, this school has reforested part of its schoolyard with trees. Although it has yet to inaugurate a Peace Tree, their intentions are to participate in the daily activities of the Peace Trees Program. The school is next to a dispensary full of patients who will benefit from the actions of these students who are enrolled in the program and who act for peace.
